Hello! The Mad Mek has been hard at work coming up with a new list for competitive ITC play for Orks. *DISCLAIMER* I am not the best 40k player. That being said, I have been trying to step up my game quite a bit. Currently I have been working on a list that pushes the auxiliary slots from the new Orkurion to the max. The glue? Deffkoptas!
The new Orkurion has been a difficult nut to crack since its release. The core selections cost some serious points and the command choices are actually pretty limiting. In the command slot you can take one HQ or the Council of Waaagh! The Council is a mini DEATHSTAR without access to psychic powers. Ghazz can rock a 2++ for the majority of the game since he can call his Waaagh every turn with the added bonus of making all Ork units fearless. This is great, but you have almost zero Kustomization with that list at 1850 since the core and council take up so many points. You toss in the mandatory auxiliary for its lowest points (Mek Gun) and try to squeeze in some 'Eavy Armor and Power Klaws. I have been working a bit on this style, but it seems to be hampering my Orky creativity.
I decided to bust open a can of Spam instead and focus on the MSU style that the Orkurion lends itself to.

This is a huge army capable of totally dominated objective based missions. The Deffkoptas are jetbikes so they can cover a ton of space on the board very quickly. The mass of STR 8 AP 3 shots that can outflank is a crazy amount of potential damage. I have had one practice game and I had my buggies and Koptas easily shoot a Knight off the table with good positioning to limit the effectiveness of the Ion shield. The Core allows for the potential of a 1st turn charge depending on deployment.
In my first game with the list, we rolled for random mission and got ITC mission 3 which is Purge the Alien. This is the worst mission for me as my list has a potential 25 kill points to give. My opponent was playing Black Legion with KDK and a Renegade Knight. Chaos won primary easily and ended getting tertiary from First Strike and King of the Hill. I could not do enough to kill his invisible sorcerer star with Fleshhounds so they parked on the middle and stayed put. However, I dominated the secondary. It was 7-1 in my favor at the end. Also, Traktor Kannons are really really good against flyers (Poor Helldrake!) I will keep everyone updated as I tweak this list. This is my starting point for LVO this year.
In other news, I love T-Shirts. Any one who knows me knows that I love T-Shirts. I have even worked at comic conventions selling T-Shirts at a booth, just to get free T-Shirts at the end of the con. That being said, Armorclass10.com started a referral program that can allow me to earn free T-Shirts. So if you like D&D related things check them out through my link.

They have great T-Shirts for the geeky gamer type. So check it out. Thanks!
I have played against a list like that before and it was quite fun for both of us. Those twin-linked rokkits can really do some damage to marines. Enjoy :o)
ReplyDeleteThat is what I like about Rokkits. They make Marines live in my world of no armor save.
DeleteLike the list, but feel you could do even more with tank busta's filing up a bunch of trucks, since they can reroll armor pens :).
ReplyDeleteI love me some Tankbustas, but version 1.0 doesn't have the room. We will see how it evolves.
DeleteI love this list, need to see this Waagh!! painted :)
ReplyDeleteWorking on it! Two more Trukks, 8 more Buggies, 10 more Deffkoptas, a Mek... sheesh. That's a lot!
DeleteGlad to see I'm not the only one running a horde army these days Mek, good luck with it.
ReplyDeleteMy bag is sooooooooooooooo heavy!
